Honda CBR1000RR (Fireblade) Review

Here is a super sports bike for the Indian roads from the very popular Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Private Limited (HMSI). The Honda CBR1000RR is positioned against its adversaries stunning Yamaha YZF-R1 and also the Suzuki Hayabusa. The super bike is christened Fireblade and one will say, most appropriately, of the show stopper styling it has. The Honda CBR1000RR is the latest rendition from the drawing boards of team of engineers from Honda and poses tough competition in the superbike segment.

Looks: Honda CBR1000RR is given a styling that will appeal as well as that serves some purpose. For achieving lighter weight and for achieving what is called mass centralizing the nose and tail got some trimming. The nose fairing appears short and cut and the tail is almost non existent. This is to retain the MotoGP functionality aspects. The exhaust position also makes some sense and it looks best from rear and sides. The front isn’t disappointing I mean.

The all new Honda CBR1000RR reflects stunning looks with color options ranging from pearl white, black metallic to pearl siren blue. Color scheme of orange and red are also available for the bold and the adventurous people. The eye catching styling of Honda CBR1000 RR is another ultimate statement in the world of street machines. From nose to tail, Honda CBR1000RR reflects innovation to suit the best aerodynamic features.

Performance: Honda CBR1000RR represents pinnacle of super bike performance. Most innovative super bike ever built, the Fireblade is powered with a 999cc liquid-cooled inline four-cylindered engine that has an awesome compression ratio of 12:3:1. It comes with six-speed transmission, adjustable front forks and dual stage fuel injection system. The HondaCBR1000RR peaks performance at 178 hps @13000 rpm.
The ignition is computer controlled transistorized with three dimensional mapping. This version, the CBR1000RR from the Honda got even better with introduction of combined anti-lock braking system and the groundbreaking performance is further accentuated with radial front brakes and 4-spoke ninja-star rear wheel. The incredible performance of Honda CBR10000RR sets it apart in the superbike podium with a difference. Every part of this latest version is re-designed and re engineered to minimize weight including the side stand and wheels.

To improve stability on account of deceleration, a slipper clutch is available with center-cam assist mechanism. Performance is further enhanced with a revised Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD). Check on the exhaust system of this latest Honda CBR1000RR. It is no longer an underseat design, instead, features a side-slung exhaust that increases again the mass centralization and compactness to the bike.

Arghhh! A Fireblade for Indian conditions? On the Indian roads, this bike will do well to balance against bad driving conditions. It’s not harsh to ride on bumpy and crater full roads too which anyway is a characteristic of Indian roads. What is mind blowing with this super bike CBR1000RR is the brake quality with its Anti Brake System. It’s the microprocessor that fixes the amount of brake pressure needed.

In fact, one can do many things by modulating the pistons and without exerting physically. Even on the congested roads, Honda CBR1000 RR is expected to manage the proportion of braking between the wheels (front and rear) as it is equipped with both anti-lock and anti-pitch systems. So, even under situation of hard braking condition, this super bike can minimize weight shift onto the front wheel, keeping the rear wheel on the ground. The machine is a perfect compact one and meets the current emission standards.
So what say?

Pricing: Priced (Ex-showroom Delhi) at Rs.12.5 lacs, this biggie loaded with style and looks appeals definitely to the high-end clientele and passionate motorbike enthusiasts. The high price tag is for the reason that CBR1000RR is not manufactured in India, but we are importing completely built units. The company has to pay high custom duties and that by itself doubles the cost of this motorcycle manufacturing. So, for a common man to experience Honda CBR1000RR, the wait on the Indian soils have to be long as because the prices will not come down until India at least begins assembling the parts or start manufacturing super bikes.

But for now, we shall at least thank the government for its policy ease on allowing import of super bikes. Because it will give us opportunity to see more of such super machines and Honda CBR1000RR definitely makes a very good contender. No matter, what this Honda CBR1000RR will be any owner’s pride and definitely gets everybody else’s envious looks

Honda VTR250 Roadster Announced for Europe

Another one for the cool-bike-we-can't-get-here files: Honda announced a revamped VTR250 naked-sports-standard for the European market. The new model, a revised version of the Japan-only VTR that's been on sale since 1997, gives yet another option to European motorcyclists looking for a fun, inexpensive and sporty machine. We probably won't see it in the U.S.

The VTR uses a 90-degree, four-valve, liquid-cooled V-Twin that has identical bore and stroke numbers to the motor you may remember in the 1989-1990 VTR 250 Interceptor sold here in the USA. Is it the same motor? I'd guess it is (or at least a derivative), and there's nothing worng with that: it's good for a claimed 29 hp at 10,500 rpm, about the same as Kawasaki's Ninja 250R. That motor rides around in style, bolted into a tube-steel trellis frame with a 55.3 inch wheelbase. Wheels are 17-inchers front and back, with bias-ply rubber, but a 41mm fork (Mr. Ninja uses 37mm tubes) should keep things stable. A floating 296mm brake disc and two-piston caliper in front should be enough to slow the 359 pounds of claimed wet weight. A 30.5-inch saddle height (identical to the Ninja) should make the bike attractive to the under-legged.

It's topped off with a tank, seat and instruments that look very much like a Ducati Monster's. In fact, this might be a bike frequently mistaken for a small Monster, but that should add to the appeal. Available accessories include an alarm and nav system. There's no European pricetag on it yet, but the Ninja 250R sells for the U.S. equivalent of about $5,900 (including tax and registration), so expect it to be priced about the same.

What do you think? Is there a market in the land of big spaces (and big people) for a small naked sportbike? Let us know. The American Honda folks read MD, too…

Honda CB1000R

The Honda CB1000R reflects power, masculinity with a distinctive style and appeal. From the designing board to manufacturing, Honda team of engineers conceptualized CB1000R as a naked beauty to convey powerful impression of performance even when it rests on the stand. Looks monstrous and aggressive though, but one can really enjoy the ride on a CB1000R machine as its fun-filled accentuated with sheer magic of thrill and excitement.

The Honda CB1000R further grabs attention of every onlooker with the unmistakable metal as muscle to add to its look and its unstoppable power-packed performance can woo bike enthusiasts. The rear seat rises and the rear tyre is huge with seat saddle pitting a little. These looks of the bike are further enhanced with slim and short tail cowl and a forward-tilted fuel tank. The compact bikini cowl of the Honda CB1000R makes it look brilliant with its close to triangle-shaped multi-reflector headlight (I never had so much love for the wolf-eyed headlight, but this one hit me with a monster head like looks) and distinctive LED position lamp. Honda CB1000R looks big but it doesn’t look unmanageable unlike some super bikes. I find that CB1000R has more of steel than some other super bikes in the same engine segment and it does blend well with chrome. The four-spoked wheels add to the beauty

Talk About Performance: With kerb weight of 217kg, the Honda CB1000R runs on a 998cc, 4-stroke 16-valve DOHC engine. It means with each and every twist of the throttle, the super bike powers exhilarating acceleration. The mass-forward orientation of the super bike positions the rider slightly forward and it does help the rider to have a control on the bike in the windy roads and twisted turns that any sports bike rider will love.

In the segment of liter-class performers, this super street machine CB1000R delivers breathtaking power and awesome torque. It’s the torque that pulls the motorcycle in the race or to climb an uphill with tremendous ease. With a 6-speed gearbox transmission, the engine delivers maximum power output of 92kW @ 10000rpm and torque is about 1000 Nm @8000 rpm. The technical specifications of the Honda CB1000R include fully-adjustable radial front brakes, forks, single-backbone frame and all digital dashboards.

honda-cb1000r-india-bike-photos-2

The LCD meter panel features multi-segment LCD tachometer. Other features of the Honda CB1000R include dual piston caliper, mono shock rear suspension coupled with adjustable HMAS damper in addition to 310mm floating front-disc brakes.

You Gotta Be Kidding… Super Bike On Indian Roads?

Honda CB1000R will set the heart of most bike lovers on fire as it pulsates with speed and vibrates with power be it metal road or asphalted road. It’s the acceleration that is sets it apart and with the new version of its braking system, the super bike can well be kept under control without the slightest displacement. Cartridge-type fork suspension system doesn’t fail and delivers smooth stop. The Z rate sports bike standard tyres withstand high speeds and the wider rear tyre provides the bike stability and awesome pull on the corners and turns.

honda-cb1000r-india-bike-photos-3

Honda CB1000R is equipped with ABS or Antilock brake system which functions on bumpy and uneven road surfaces. The system reacts when there is even small change in the speed of 2 wheels and applies brake pressure for smooth and steady deceleration/stopping of the bike. So it should suit Indian roads as well.

Besides, tubeless tyres add on to the lighter weight while still gripping the road surface. With competition from Yamaha and Suzuki, Honda is poised for greater challenges in the super bike segment even in India

Final Verdict: Although Honda CB1000R super bike comes with a hefty price tag, yet the market for super bikes in India has open up well and people are now not hesitant to spend on the 1000cc metal machines and even in times of recession Honda boasts of selling its units. The Fireblade engine is redesigned for midrange performance and therefore, Honda CB1000R is expected to pump in greater demand, more for its torque than for its power.
